Douglas Braun Harvey, MFT, CGP, was one of the first clinicians to challenge the sexual addiction model; he developed the concept of out-of-control sexual behavior, a model bridging sexual and mental health. He is a sexual-health author, trainer, and psychotherapist whose most recent book is Treating Out of Control Sexual Behavior: Rethinking Sexual Addiction.

He recently retired from his 40 years of private practice to spend more time writing and teaching. He founded the Harvey Institute, which consults and trains on integrating sexual health in mental health work. He originally wanted to become a doctor to help people, but felt lifted when taking a general psychology class. He speaks about being a gay man in the field and how he wants the field to shift from a model of sexual addiction to a model of out-of-control sexual behavior.
